But another thing that confuses me is; is e.g. b.lang {} the same and equally valid as lang * {}

If you had a class "lang" applied to some high level element like html or body

But that will probably have a LOW specificity
Compared to other elements
B.box2 will overwrite .lang * {}
I do believe
Since b.box2 is far more specific that .lang *
